And we thought the IKEA VIRRE indoor slide was fun. How ingenious is this slide built next to the staircase?

We spotted the photo over at Bloesem Kids today. Sure, there could be some safety concerns with younger kids, but all of that aside, what a fun way to truly incorporate children into the design of the home.
aww.. i want one for my future kids!

future kids, nothing! I want one now, for me!
(My current kids would love it, too, though. And I'd let them have a turn once in awhile.)

Wow, I want one! My siblings and I used to do something way more dangerous with making a makeshift slide with mattresses off our bunkbeds. This seems way more safe...though it sure was fun. Until Mom found us, that is.

A way to make this safer for very young children is to use a scooped design instead of a flat one. One of the tot lots I used to visit has a super long and high plastic slide (scooped), and it does look a little scary at first, but once you try it, you see it's safe.
Also, for a slide like this, you don't have to build it into the stairwell, you can make one to fit on top of the stairs.
Very cool idea!!!

My high school had a slide like that by the stairs. It wasn't supposed to be a slide, but that's sure what it was used as! A lot of fun.

My dad built a slide like that for us 25 years ago. It took us from our loft bedroom to the main floor. It was the hit of every party. Even the grown-ups liked going down it. We still call that house the slide house.
