Look! Arrow of Time: The Goldberg Family

2007_10_25_arrow of time1.jpg

Family Photo Day. Every June 17th the members of the Goldberg family sit for a photograph to, in their words, "stop, for a fleeting moment, the arrow of time passing by." They've been at it for over thirty years now...

You can see each year (1976-2007) here.

We love the idea of instituting an annual portrait day. Looking back on our own family's portraits, a few years may pass in between them. There are years when our parents were snap-happy and years that seem almost lost to time because they're hardly documented. We suspect that the advent of digital photography has meant that most families are photographed more than ever before. Who's the family photographer/archivist in your family?

That is one of the coolest things I have EVER seen. I wonder it something like that could be collaged or something for families that are already growing or blended families with different pasts.

I can't decide if this is cool or slightly depressing. I don't know that I'd want to see a side-by-side comparison of myself aging but it's fun to see the kids change.

Love the idea... But I think if we copy the concept, we'd make sure to smile in the photos. :-)

One of my aunts tapes individual interviews every year or so. She's only going to reveal the results in 10 more years or so - and we'll be able to see how our dreams and hopes changed as we grew up

I'm diggin' Mom's variety of classic 70's and 80's hairdos. Very handsome family. The youngest son is quite the hottie.

My husband found out about this family a few years ago and we started doing this ourselves last year. Every January 20 (the anniversary of the day Steve and I met) we take our pictures. Last year I was pregnant (although you couldn't see my belly) and this year we got to snap our baby's picture, too. I get so excited each time to do it and debate whether or not to do any extra primping in honor. So far all I've done is thrown on a little lipstick.

I kinda love the hairdos of the past collage. I love the idea of doing this when kids are closer.

saw this a few years back and we started doing this a year or two before we got married. Next May will be the first year with the baby pics, but we decided to include our puppy in the lineup too so it has been fun watching the changes! we try to wear the same color shirt every year so that the focus stays on our faces and not our fashion :)
