Just because Halloween is over, doesn't mean it's time to ignore the pumpkins. A grouping of various pumpkins and gourds can make a simple and charming welcome to any front door.

We spotted these while trick or treating and love the eclectic collection of shapes, colors and sizes. So simple, yet so adorable and a lovely way to continue celebrating fall and --- soon enough --- Thanksgiving.
Anyone know how long a pumpkin can sit around before it starts to rot? I want to decorate with some small pumpkins and gords for thanksgiving and I'm wondering f I buy them now will they be OK by thanksgiving.

They will last a while if they aren't carved. I don't know of any specific time, but I imagine the larger of the gords will last a little bit longer.

I bought some small pumpkins and gords from a fruit stand and they were starting to mold about a week or two later. I don't know about the larger ones.

It would be fun to see reader's jack-o-lanterns for ideas for next year. Maybe you could ask for submissions and do a round-up post.

I've heard that one can soak a pumpkin (carved or uncarved) in a bleach/water solution (1 tsp. bleach 1 gallon water) and this will inhibit the growth of mold. No personal experience, however.

Some of my little gourds survive intact from Halloween to Thanksgiving, and some get moldy. Happens every year.
