Mini-Trend: Grey In The Nursery

2008-12-17-grey2jpgIt's been our favorite color since our tween years. Grey isn't the first color (or third) color you probably think of when decorating a nursery or buying baby accessories, but maybe it can be. Like brown , the color grey is a great modern neutral. And although sometimes considered cold, it also can be very warm.

We're drawn to the matte grey finish on the Sparrow Crib by Oeuf. It works with any bedding choice - bright, pastel or white. And we're kicking ourselves for buying our Stokke Tripp Trapps chairs before the grey ones came out.

What do Ohdeedoh readers think about grey in the nursery? Do you like the look enough to use it in your baby's nursery?

Check out our previous post about grey in kids' rooms.

I would totally use grey. Especially if I were doing a Totoro nursery.

I love the look of the grey in nurseries I have seen, but I do not think I would do it in my own. We have a craftsman style home and like our furniture to compliment the craftsman architecture. If I had a more modern house I would be all about the grey crib.

I usually love everything featured on this blog, but I have to say that crib is kinda ugly. I would not use it in a nursery...Looks too cold.

I love it. I would surround it with bright colors. Grey and green are my two favorite "unconventional" neutrals.

We moved into a new apartment when 7 mos preg with our son. The whole place was painted this kind of gray sky day that I just love and we left it for the nursery. Put in a lot of other colors and we and everyone (well so they say) love how it looks. I keep meaning to upload some photos to try to get a nursery tour! He is now 10 months and it still hasn't happened!

I think grey in the nursey is awesome! For the past 20 years it has been beige beige beige so grey is very welcome.

Add some red, or yellow, or teal, or pink, or...

I love this color as a neutral. Very modern but not ridiculous.

both of those items are a warm shade of grey. i think they'd be great! i'd stay away from the more prison-y, concrete shades, especially on a crib, it'd look like a baby cage!

i had just started thinking about using a gray crib for my nursery! This kitchen has the color combo I have in mind for the room (bright yellow and cool aqua) and I think gray furniture would be great in here.

Any ideas on more affordable gray cribs? I think I'm running out of time and energy to paint a white crib myself.

Both my kids (age 1 and 3) have warm grey walls. White furniture looks great against it, and we have oak floors so it never looks cold or uninviting. We have lots of colourful accessories in each of their rooms, not to mention the rainbow of toys that changes so often with their changing interests and gifts they receive. I'm really glad we chose grey as the backdrop, there are very few colours that don't look great set against it.

I paired the IKEA Hulda Rund (orange and white) bedding with gray sheets and blue/gray walls. Then I added some wall decals in bright colors and it looks amazing!!! Definitely a yes on grey in a nursery!

I will be painting my nursery grey, and plan on doing white/black accents punched up with a brighter accent color... depending on if we have a boy or a girl. I think grey is classic and suitable for any age child.

We have an extra room that will eventually be a nursery. We are using it as a guest room for now, but I wanted to paint and decorate it only once. We painted the walls a kind of darker concrete gray - everything else in the room is black, white and yellow. Once we get pregnant, I will probably do either a white or yellow crib, and do white/black/yellow bedding. Accents in the room are bright yellow and white to contrast against the darker gray wall. Hopefully once we are pregnant, and it is set up more as a nursery, I will post some pics. But we are planning to bring any colors (besides yellow) in with all the kid stuff -- toys, books, etc.
