The bright colors and out of order numbers are unexpected. The calendar measures 25"x22" and is $46 here. You can fill it with candies, snacks, stickers or other treasures.
If December weren't so near, we'd be tempted to make something ourselves. If any ATers have a homemade advent calendar to show off, please let us know!
Advent calendars was something I used to look forward to as a child! The one above looks like something that would be great with young children, but we started advent calendar making when I was about 6 years old.
Every year we would save all the Christmas/Holiday cards we received, cutting out our favorite images. Next, my mother and I would arrange them on a tabletop and find a piece of tag board or other heavy paper and we would cut "doors" and "windows" in for all the days in the month. Next we would paste the images cut from the cards behind it. Preparing this right after Christmas and saving it until next Christmas allowed us to be surprised each day of the month the following year! Not only was it fun to open but it was great time spent with mom and a good way to recycle all those pretty Christmas card images.
