Playroom Closet

walk-inclosetTOPPIC.jpgWhat do you get when you clear out a closet and add some great accessories? How about a lovely play area? We came upon this terrific little before and after project and love many of the ideas it gave us.

The bottom shelf was fitted with a small mattress providing a cozy little reading nook. The astro turf squares were added to the ceiling which gives the space a fun, quirky atmosphere. Who wouldn't love a magical place all their own?

We have a closet just like this! With two little ones sharing it's room and hardly any other closets in the house, we can't afford to not have it stuffed with storage but I really love this idea now and think it's great when kids can have their own magical spaces!

Thanks for sharing!

Hi Jaime! The little girl was just up there for the photo. That space isn't utilized.

I used to have a closet kind of like this with shelves going up one side, and I used to climb up and hang out on the top shelf all the time. LOVED IT.

I'd drag my cat up there with me too. And all my books. I had quiet the setup.

I have to have been about six though.

I love the alphabet board and the puffy white pillows, which make me think they symbolize clouds and encourage daydreaming.

Very cool!

Having seen the child on the top shelf, though, it seems like it would be really easy to build a loft that spans the entire length (depth?) of the closet. The light would have to go, though.

If we had put our oldest son on that shelf, even for one picture, he would find a way to get back up there, consequences be damned. Might as well make is easier and safer.

we did this with our closets as kids, made offices out of them, put a twin bed in there ( legs stuck out of the closet but it was still nice). small spaces are lots of fun for kids. Its worth purchacing a cabinet for the clothes to have the closet for play space.
