Sip and See

080509sippycups.jpgHave you heard of a "Sip and See?" To be honest, we had not. It's basically a little party after the baby is born where the parents get to show baby off a bit and get out of the house. Whether or not a Sip and See party is for you, there are a few good ideas here including dollar story sippy cups that guests get to fill up with candy and take home as favors.

Some other great inspiration here:

080509jars.jpg• Great drink jars from Walmart- or you could use cute mason jars, with cute labels. Add some colorful beverages and they double as decoration.

• Cupcake stand purchased at Michaels and decorated with paper on each level and cute cupcake toppers.

That's very adorable, but I can't imagine me getting it together enough to have people over right after my baby came home from the hospital. I hope it's a party someone else threw for the happy family and their new addition!

i think these parties are a great idea for one crowd in particular: friends of grandma. this women are often invited to a pre-birth baby shower where they give a gift and are friendly to the mother-to-be, and then the baby is born and they are sort of last on the list to get into the new mom's house and snuggle the little one with all the post-birth craziness. so i think it's a nice alternative to instead invite them to a party like this, hosted by grandma, after the baby is born...my MIL did this and it was lovely, her friends got to coo over the baby and i got to rest and swap labor stories with them.

I think this is a great idea if it's not at the new parents' home. Also, I'm not a Wal-mart consumer, but I gotta have those drink jars!!!

hi everyone- it's not at the new parents' home. I think most of us would agree that would NOT be a great idea!

Maybe it's a Southern thing?

Like Jaime5 suggested, it seems like a great idea for friends of the baby's grandparents, who may not get to see the little one.

Friends of ours did this after their baby was born, and it worked well for them because they live 3 hours from the grandparents and extended family.

Hi there! Thanks for the feature. I'm the one who actually held this party, and the reason we did it this way is because my friend lived in a different state and was in visiting for a short amount of time. It worked great for everyone to get to see her & the baby without her making hundred's of stops. It definitely is meant to be held somewhere besides the mother's home, unless the mother wants to show off the nursery, too. In that case, it is the responsibility of the person throwing the party to clean her house & prepare everything! :)
