Sophie's Nova Scotian Playhouse

2008-12-05-play3.jpg

Welcome, wipe your feet and step right into one of the sweetest little playhouses we've seen. As a child Linda always dreamed of having a playhouse and that fantasy inspired this space lovingly made with her husband for their 8-year-old daughter, Sophie. It's filled with many wonderful details and touches - come take a look.

If you take a closer look at the photo above you'll see that the front door has its own key - of which her daughter is the proud owner. We also love the house numbers, mailbox and lantern which make it feel like a "real" home.

Wouldn't you love to flop on this daybed with a stack of books for the afternoon? (And it affords a good vantage point to keep a watchful eye on any slumbering dolls). A plexiglass window near the ceiling lets in light during the day and provides for stargazing in the evening.

You know we love a good play kitchen and this one is no exception. It's complete with a spiffed up wooden stove, sink, drying rack, appliances, potholders and all the gadgets any young cook could want.

Linda has lots more photos to share on her blog. Visit her at Restyled Home to see the playhouse's telephone, chalkboard, chandelier, and more.

How exciting to be featured on one of my favourite design websites!! Thanks so much to Carrie for the great write-up and for making the photos shine!! Sophie was thrilled to see her playhouse on the site...she truly loves her little house, and now wants to decorate it for Christmas! We'll see...

I adore this playhouse, and it's inspired me to do something similar for my baby daughter--when she's much older. My niece will have outgrown her playhouse by that time, and while lovely, it was never finished quite like this one. It does have drywall. If I can make it half as lovely as this Aurora will have years of fun playing house.
