For those with kids rooms that are feel like they only have space for the bare necessities, the super sized rooms that seem all the rage in the media lately, can feel more than a little extreme. Matt in Kansas City tore his 8'x11' spare bedroom down to the studs and made it over to be a perfectly pleasant, pint sized space...
The beautiful wood floors were covered in vinyl tile and the walls held no insulation, so those were some of the major changes made to the space. The 80yr old room was brought down to the studs to make sure it would be the best nursery possible. A great chair and crib, some artwork and decals and a few retail finds bring the room together and make it bright and cheerful.
Make sure to check out all of Matt's notes on the renovation process, furniture choices and more over at Flickr.
Thanks Matt!

Love that glider and ottoman - saw on your flickr page it's from Babies r Us, but I don't see it on their site - do you know what the item name and / or number is?

this is sooo wonderful! we're trying for baby number 2 right now, and it's nursery will be 8'11" by 9'3". it definitely is frustrating when all of the catalogs and inspiration homes i see have gigantic rooms.
thanks so much for sharing!

I'm confused...I have no idea how this room is set up because there are two of the same shots of before and one of art and the ceiling...none of which explain anything useful about space planning. And, I'm sorry, but those tiny decals look like a child got ahold of a sticker book and went crazy.

I'd nix the decals and paint the room a bolder color, but yay for wood floors!

That's because it is such a small room. They are a challenge to photograph, because you often can't get far enough away from the walls to get a wider angle. I learned this when I tried to take pictures of my daughters (approximately) 4'x8' playroom.

I think it's perfect for the space you had to use. Nice job.

Great job! It's a lovely room. And I'm sure it's now cozy and warm for the baby. Fabulous rocker, and I love the muted color scheme.

Hey all, thanks for the kind words. To answer a few questions:
@ncnovice: The rocker and ottoman were on clearance when we bought them last winter, so Babies R Us may not be carrying that model anymore. I think we bought the floor model.
@Enamorada: there's not much space planning to this room. 2 walls are taken up by windows, so the crib goes up against the third wall and the changing table goes up against the fourth. sometimes they switch places. voila.
We considered bolder colors, but we were worried that the room would look smaller than it already is, so we went with the light neutrals and decals. The decals (from notNeutral) are bigger than they look, but because I was shooting photos from such weird angles, it didn't translate.
