Try This! Toddler Sewing Card

When craft vixen and mom extraordinaire, Heather Mann isn't running two blogs and a zine (click through to see which ones!), she's busy entertaining and inspiring her two toddlers with great kid friendly crafts. We loved her idea for this safety first, sewing trick and thought it would work out great for Mother's Day cards, Easter cards or just crazy random fun! Click through to see more!

Heather is the mastermind behind Croqzine, the daily blog it features as well as the blog, Dollar Store Crafts. We're pretty sure Heather eats, sleeps and breathes creativity as she has thousands of ideas up her sleeve!

For this project, you'll need construction or heavy paper, a ball point pen to poke the holes, a length of yarn and a piece of pipe cleaner. After poking the holes in your desired pattern, simply fold the pipe cleaner around the yarn to "make a needle." That's all there is to it, The pipe cleaner is stiff enough for little fingers to use with ease and without parental fear. Although this idea was originally done on a small scale for a card or the like, we think it could also be great fun to do as a large scale project. A large piece of water color paper or Bristol paper (even matboard) would hang nicely on the wall in their bedroom. It suddenly makes us yearn for the amazing string art pieces of decades past!

I've found that craft foam really works well. You can use a hole punch to make the holes and you can purchase pre-cut shapes (like hearts) and just punch holes around the edge. Quick party favor to send home with the kids or keep them occupied in the car.

I tried this out over the past few days with my four year old daughter and she loved it. We did dispense with the pipe cleaner though as we found a chunky plastic needle in a craft shop instead. She's made a bunch of bookmarks and some fun cards too and is very impressed with her new skill! Thanks!
