Surya found the main component of her play kitchen at Joanns - an unfinished wood 2-cube shelf ($35) which she used as the base (she picked up knobs there too for .50 a pop). Her husband, Dave, had the doors, face plate and back splash cut from scrap at Home Depot ($4). The oven rack is a chrome shelf she found at the grocery store; the faucet is a papier mâché "S" cut in half (clever!); the burners are wooden plaques; the shelf is a cd shelf; and the vintage accessories were thrifting scores. Surya and Dave estimate they spent about $60 on the project.

We're so impressed with how professional and attractive this looks and it proves, once again, what you can do with a little creativity and a little elbow grease.
