When we first saw the stylish wagon and carts of Kaiku Design we began playing the "which stylish European country do these hail from game" in our head (we were leaning towards Holland) so imagine our surprise and delight to find that they are the design of Northern Californian Scot Herbst who formed Kaiku Designs with his wife Amy.

With two children as inspiration and product testers, the Herbsts aim to apply good design to beautiful products for children to last a lifetime. They're committed to primarily using what they call "real" materials - wood, metal and natural rubber and source the safest, greenest components they can including non-toxic finishes, formaldehyde-free woods and cotton rope.

Kaiku Design's inaugural products are for movers, walkers, and haulers: the Zen wagon ($319), PushPull ($165) and Strollkart ($149). They also sell two accessories: a rattan Lightship Basket ($40) and Cup Holder ($15).

Scot Herbst is a Silicon Valley defector and a most welcome addition to the children's design world. We look forward to watching Kaiku Design grow and create more quality products to delight children and families.
