Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh | Ohdeedoh Kids' Color Contest Entry #11: Kit's Room

Inspiration: We wanted baby's room to have a concentrated wall color that would be fun for boy or girl, as we were waiting to finish decorating the room until after the birth. With the expert help of my decorator/mom, and after giving away the first cans of green, this color matched a pair of vintage lamps I had bought a few years ago perfectly.

Inspiration Continued: The ceiling is painted a pale blue to resemble the sky and is less stark than white. The red-orange used on bedding, rocking chair, and rug complement the green in a funky 70's kind-of-way. Framed bird flashcards, curtains, and accessories offer the pattern necessary to tie wall and accent colors together. We had a specific vision for the room that the baby should be able to be stimulated by color and curiosity wherever she looked.

Tip for Using Color: We're glad we chose a vibrant accent color, but used it in small doses. Hoping that the wall color can transition into her "little-kid" years, but we'll be able to register change in the room by updating the accent color. I'm guessing she'll ask for pink in the future! An easy switch that will also be affordable.

Colors Used: All paints are Hallman Lindsay Ultima-Low VOC paints. The rocker is #8605 Truffle Trouble-Rocker; the walls are #6703 Frolic; and the ceiling is #113 Seagull Point.

I love the color of the room and the red-orange accent color. The rocking chair is great. The round shape for the light is great with your round crib. This is a great room to go from baby girl to toddler girl.

Blinds are from jcpenney.com...relatively inexpensive when you catch them on promo.
