Ohdeedoh Kids' Color Contest
Entry #23: Primary Fun!

fall-colors-jasmine-1.jpg

Name: Jasmine
Location: Austin, TX
Child: Atticus, 18 months

Inspiration: My favorite colors are sky blue, sunny yellow and bright red. I collect vintage Fisher Price toys and knew if I had a boy or girl, those would be the palette of the nursery...

Inspiration continued: I painted the crib, changing table and rocking chair in those colors, and the closet is lined with red paper panels that Tord Boontje designed for Target in 2006. The window curtain is a panel of fabric from IKEA, in which I ironed on pictures of all Atticus’s friends and family (because so many of them live so far away).

Except for the crib, all the furniture he can grow into well beyond infanthood (the changing table is a desk with Star Wars figures for the drawer pulls). We love using an IKEA Expedit in his closet for his dresser because it can do double duty for his toy storage as well. It’s a fun, bright and whimsical room to be in!

Tip for Using Color: Use the colors that you prefer to be in. Don't be afraid to go bonkers! Look around your home for inspiration. Just because he/she is a baby doesn't mean you are limited to pastels. Also think about how you want the room to evolve as he/she gets older. Aside from your child, no one is spending more time in there than you!

Colors Used: Wall paint: Valspar Sunny Yellow
Crib: Delta Luv painted with Krylon Color Creations Kids in "Bo Peep Blue"
Desk/changing table: Craigslist, painted with Krylon Color Creations Kids in "Bo Peep Blue"
Pillow cover on Ikea sofa: Retro Rocket Pals fabric by Michael Miller
Art: Handmade Mr. T picture with gold glitter encrusted letter 'A'
Toys: Vintage Fisher Price, Little Tikes, Step2, Star Wars, and an eclectic mix I collected over the years

I love Mr. T too, and all the retro stuff. Also love the photo curtain - looks good and a good way for him to remember the further away folks. How did you do that - is there photo paper that is iron-able?

Hi, Lane! I used an inkjet tshirt photo transfer paper that I got at OfficeMax and using PowerPoint printed out the photos in the shape of circles, cut them out, and ironed them onto the fabric.

Thanks, Tabitha...I agree, taking the doors off the closet opened up alot of space!

I adore Mr. T. I can't explain why, but I think he is iconic and wonderful!

Hiya, Dibss.com! I did make the mobile from a tiny bicycle wheel, ball chain, fishing line, felt, and glitter vinyl.
