Ohdeedoh Kids' Color Contest
Entry #28: Matilda's Delicious Yellow Haven

fall-colors-julia-1.jpg

Name: Julia E
Location: Orchard Lake, MI
Child: Matilda, 6 months

Inspiration: I fell in love with the wallpaper and knew I had to have it in her room. But I didn't want everything to be yellow, so I added in various shades of pink, with some green and blue elements thrown in.

Tip for Using Color: Don't limit yourself with the colors you use. You're going to continually be adding in new elements into the room through toys, clothes, accessories, books - in various shades. So if you limit the number of colors from the get-go, you'll feel like each new element is out of place.

Colors Used:
Wallpaper - Cole and Son Cow Parsley
Bedding - Dwell Pink Dots
Dresser - IKEA Malm (with wallpaper, ribbon and hardware added)

LOVE the wallpaper & round rug. I wish you would have done more paper or paint--the bookshelf wall seems bare in comparison. But I love the paper in the bookshelf, too. FUN!

I love the first shot, but I am with SQ--the bookshelf wall seems a little bare. maybe you could paint it the same yellow as the background in the wallpaper?

I like the little details--am I wrong in thinking that the bookcase paper and the lampshade match?

The room is gorgeous - so many lovely details! I love what you have done with the dresser and bookcase. To me, it looks like the bookcase wall is just waiting for that perfect piece of art?

LOVE THIS ROOM... THE WALLPAPER... THAT RUG... agree with other readers about maybe painting the other walls ( I think it would look GREAT). Where is the rug from?

Now this is someone with inherent style and understanding of color theory. You nailed it. This is what, no matter how hard I try, I will never accomplish. I can make a great room that an average person will think looks like Elle Decor... but this room is the difference between what I can do and what someone who just gets it can do. Excellent.

I do agree that painting the other walls would be great. Maybe match the background color of the wallpaper.

Hi Everyone - Thanks for all your comments!

I agree that the bookcase wall looks kinda bare. As blueroom commented, I'm waiting to find something perfect to put there - either a grouping of small prints or a large piece of art. I think it looks less bare in person because it's the wall that has the door on it so when you walk in, you take in all the other more styled areas first. I thought long and hard about whether to paint the other walls a matching yellow and ultimately decided against it because I really wanted the wallpaper to stand out.

Yes, lcg, the fabric on the lamp is the same as the back of the bookcase.

The rug is from Anthropologie.
