Name: Colleen
Location: Bakersfield, CA
Child: Brooke, one year old
Inspiration: Since I move slow in the area of decorating, I loved the idea of skipping the nursery thing and going straight for what a little girl would like. After consulting with a friend's 3-year-old little girl, I decided on bright and bold colors for Brooke's big girl room. I brought home several paint swatches and had different family members cast their vote. We all liked how the turquoise popped against the hutch and the pink in the bedding. The rest of the house is very "beige" so this was a big leap for us...

Inspiration continued:The room started with an antique store bed frame and a hutch that was originally my husband's grandmother's. It was painted white and then distressed and tea stained. The crown molding, hung by my husband, and the stool and bird softie, both hand-crafted by her Auntie, are my favorite parts of the room.
Now I look for anything and everything bright and bold to personalize her space! It's not finished yet, but it's getting there! Comments and ideas welcome!
Tip for Using Color: Color seemed so scary to me before decorating this space. Keeping things simple and clean was the key. I started with clearance bedding from PB Kids and went from there. I quickly realized that not everything has to match for it to go together. I thought of what I would have loved as a child (and what my parents probably would have said no to) and went for it!
Colors Used: We have had the best luck color matching with Behr paint from Home Depot.
Turquoise: Glidden, 50GG 53/144 Country Cottage
White:Glidden, 50YY/83/029 Natural White
Hutch: Ralph Lauren, Sail White, Tea Stain

My sister-in-law gives each niece or nephew a hand painted stool for their first birthdays. I also have one for my son with airplanes and hot air balloons in our bathroom!

But then you went on to list Glidden and Ralph Lauren paints! LOL.
Beautiful colors, though.

I used the Glidden and Ralph Lauren color swatches and took them to Home Depot. They match it and I have them mix it using Behr paint! :)

The colors in the room are lovely but we need to see more of the room to put it in the running.
