Ohdeedoh Kids' Color Contest
Entry #37: Pinkadot Bliss

Name: Kim
Location: Kansas
Child: Jenna, 11

Inspiration: My daughter Jenna loves green. We wanted the room to feel as relaxing and calm as it would if you stepped into a spa. The roundness of the polka dots that I painted on the wall in two shades of pink gave the wall behind her bed just the finishing touch. The circle curtains were an afterthought, but came out incredible. Combining hot pink cheetah print on the bedskirt and covering the chandelier in the same print gave it an element of playfulness that we were looking for alongside relaxing soft lovely shades of green.

Tip for Using Color: Use two shades of the same color on a paint chip where the palettes are very similar. Then try using the natural structures in the room by highlighting them with the deeper shade of paint. I used a slightly deeper shade of green on the protruding walls where each closet was located. I used that same deeper shade to paint a rectangle behind the bed to act as a frame for the letters of my daughter's name. I used a lighter shade of green from the same paint chip to paint the overall room.

It's also a great idea to do some fun whimsical painting on a nightstand or other piece of furniture in the child's room. I revamped the bedstand in black lacquer with crackle paint on the drawers in hot pink and light pink. I used the same pinks for the polkadots on the wall.

Colors Used: I custom mixed the light and hot pink colors. I used Behr paint from Home Depot. I think the name was Relaxing Spa for the deeper shade of green and then I used the next lighter shade on that paint chip from Home Depot.

What fun accessories you've used! I'm sure all her friends are jealous of her room.

Fun, but something about it is a little too...matchy.

I think this a cute room! I think we're all influenced by things other than color in all the contest photos ... for example, pushing back the curtains on the window and letting in some natural light would do wonders for the atmosphere in these particular photos.
