apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Marquee Alphabet Lights

So your kids have always wanted their name in lights? Will they settle for just their initial? We love the old-timey quality of these large (around 2' tall), metal lights reminiscent of Vaudeville, Broadway, or even the circus.

All in a bold, weathered red they'd make quite an impact in a room (and they should for $178). They look dim enough to function as an ambient night light, too.

Find A-Z (as well as "&" and "@") at Urban Outfitters.

For some reason these remind me of the movie Coraline, in particular the mouse circus... I find these rather delightful, but my first thought is " how can I hack this idea". $178 is pretty spendy.

(and I refuse to buy anything ever again from Urban Outfitters since they sold my name to mailing lists)

very cute. 178 is a lot of bones right now though.

I did this as a project at home. It is VERY easy to do... you will need a foamboard the size you want (this is a mix of a thin layer of cardboard, then foam, then cardboard again) it s usually used by architects or to hold any kind of posters in stands and expo's. You paint it the color you wish. You cut this to the letter you want and do random holes in it. Then you simply get some small christmas lights and go putting them trough the holes. and Voilá!

Romy - I'm so intrigued! Can you send us some photos or tag them with "Ohdeedoh" on Flickr?
