Project: Coop's Crib

Anyone who has sewn for a son knows the fabric industry is skewed toward the feminine, but Melanie's choice of Wallflower in Mustard suits both her growing son and his modern room. Jump below for details.

Explain how Amy Butler inspired this entry.:
I LOVE Amy Butler fabric! When I saw this particular print I thought it would be perfect for my son's room. I knew I wanted to make his crib skirt and blanket since I wasn't going to use bumpers, I didn't want to buy a set. The color goes perfectly with the other textiles in the room, and the print feels geometric to go with the lines of the furniture. And it is definitely growing with him, it doesn't look 'babyish'.

How did you make your project and what items did you use?:
The crib skirt is made of a rectangle of cotton, with 4 panels of the Amy Butler fabric sewn 1 on each side. And the blanket is a larger rectangle with 1 side cotton chenille type fabric (very soft) and the reverse side the Amy Butler fabric. I ordered the Amy Butler fabric online at Fabric.com and bought the other fabrics at Yardage Town.

Lovely! Did you use a pattern for the skirt, or did you just wing it? I want to make a crib skirt for my daughter's modern crib, also from Amy Butler fabric (but a brighter, girlier one.)

Thanks for the great comments!
I didn't use a pattern for the skirt or blanket, just measured and cut.
I wanted to submit more photos but the limit is 2. I also made the curtain and pillow (from a different fabric), which can't be seen in the photos because they are on the other side of the room.

this is very inspiring! we also dont use a bumper (have the breathable liner instead that we love) but this really looks terrific, i love that you "winged it" w/out a pattern! i think it's a great looking room (and cute lil baby too)!

I'm using this same fabric for my nursery, mixed with Amy Butler's Belle Chrysanthemum print in Mustard. Would you mind sharing the wall color you used for the room? The room we have is lavender right now and I'm having trouble deciding on a wall color to go with the fabric! Thanks!
