Explain how Amy Butler inspired this entry.:
I wanted to make something fun and modern for a baby (this is 6-12mth size) so Amy Butler's fabrics were the perfect place to look. I picked the modern fabric and then went for a more traditional playsuit for the contrast. The big print is fun but abstract enough to work on a small piece. I like how there are lots of baby appropriate fabrics, not just blue and pink. As I am still sewing for gifts and to put things away for "one day" this is a big plus.

How did you make your project and what items did you use?:
The play suit is from a pattern by Oliver + S, which along with the fabric come from different eBay sellers. Since the fabric was so modern looking I decided to use snaps instead of buttons as closures at the top (and easier for diaper changes!)

Did you put snaps in the crotch too?

thanks!

herz9160, i debated putting snaps in the crotch and consulted some of my mommy friends, but was told that they find snaps on this kind of clothing hard to line up and re-snap and they prefer just to pull that kind of thing off. But I would love to know if you think differently!

pennycarnival, thanks for asking! i haven't been doing a lot of sewing to sell these days, but if i pick it up again i will leave you a note on your blog (this particular pattern company allows handmade sales if you pay for a license for the item).

Oh, I meant one for me, like in my size! I was just kidding. It just looks so comfy and fun. Nice work.

Adorable! Great craftmanship, too. I love that the piping pattern/material matched the one on the inside back.

Sounds like a matter of taste, but I love having the snaps in the crotch for "snappy" diaper changes without having a total un-dressing session while wrangling my little one.
