Look! Hand-painted Mural

2009-03-mural.jpg

Wall murals can be painstakingly planned and mapped out or they can be projected onto a wall and traced exactingly, but there's something so personal and loving about a hand-drawn, hand-painted free-form mural like this one in Mikus' room in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Grace of design*sponge featured Mikus' room and animal mural recently and it's a great example of how much warmth and personality a mural can add to plain white walls. It was the creation of Mikus' mom, llubav, and it seems almost like a love letter in paint. See more photos of the mural and llubav's apartment here.

I like this mural because it is sweet and not overbearing. The green and white scheme keeps is really calm and soothing.

Very pretty. I just hope there aren't any little kids around who would chew on that peeling paint (on the chairs). (My kiddo chews everything right now...)

I agree! That chair set needs an make over. I am all for worn character idems but this is too much for my taste. LOVE the wall!

I disagree, this looks like a snapshot from an abandoned asylum. Bad color selection, unfinished paint is a no-no, and white walls are the worst for trying to keep clean. Sorry to be so harsh, but you asked me for my opinion.

I have that set of table and chairs. I used them growing up and my Mother used them when she was a child. Mine are in the same condition too. There is a little rot in the chair legs, though, and my husband is going to replicate them. (Without the lead paint!)

that was my first thought & concern... the chippy paint LOOKS great... but in the grand scheme of things... w/little hands and mouths ALL OVER EVERYTHING... i'd need to sand edges & paint (w/non toxic paint) to seal it... but other than that i do really like it.
