File this one under "O" for obvious --- yet somehow, we just thought of it. Whenever we'd come home, our son would struggle to hang up his coat. He'd drag a chair over and climb up trying to reach the wall hooks. More often than not, he'd just give up and leave his coat on a chair.
When we were cleaning out our garage, we came across an old wall hook/shelf and it suddenly occurred to us to just hang it on the inside door of our hallway closet, at our son's height. Can we just say, "Duh!" Not only does it keep tiny jackets off of chairs and floors, but it also encourages more independence and self-esteem in the kid. It's a win-win situation.
While our shelf was an old classroom hand-me-down, we think these shelves and hooks would work as well:
Where did you find that jacket. White with x's very cute...
Thanks

Hi Lesie,
Everyone LOVES that hoodie and the crazy thing is I found it on the clearance rack at JC Penney for only $4.00. When my kid saw it, he fell in love with it, too.

This works for us. A few Christmases ago my father-in-law made us a coatrack. It just didn't go with our decor-so I affixed it to the back wall of our hall coat closet at the kids' level. It's perfect for all their coats & backpacks!
