Friends of ours are architects and most years their firm participates in Canstruction. What is Canstruction you're wondering? It's a traveling design/build competition where teams of architects, engineers and students create all kinds of structures out of canned food which is later donated to food pantries and soup kitchens. We're thinking it might also be a fun activity to try at home with your own kids and cans.

Canstruction takes place in U.S. and Canadian cities and is open to the public. Click here to see if Canstruction is coming to your city soon.

We found these photos on flickr, but you can also check out tons more photos and videos on Canstruction's website to give you a flavor of the event.

It seems that Oscar The Grouch is made up of all the peas that none of the babies apparently eat... including mine...

I just showed this to my little neighbor, a huge Oscar fan, and he was so excited. Now he has a picture of Oscar "made of trash" he doesn't get that the cans are still full.
