apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

well, pink & white was my (4 yr old) daughter's choice for her room too, but apart from that, I can't relate to this room... just not my style...

I have white FLOR carpet tiles in the nursery and love them. Real carpet would not be so good. Bright red baby Tylenol spots all over it....

I love Apple's room, though. And this is only the weekend house, described as casual. I can only imagine the "real" house...

With an uptight mother like GP, I can imagine that Apple's not allowed to bring anything messy and non-macrobiotic into her room anyway...

To me it's just kind of meh. Don't love it. Don't hate it.

There's white carpet because GP doesn't clean...the housekeeper does.

My ideal kids bedroom is condusive to play. This is condusive to being in a magazine.

wow, grrr meow from so many about Gwyneth Paltrow.....
a) it's an area rug...not a carpet...look at the edges... there is wood below it.
b) maybe she sucks at cleaning and does have a housekeeper. I suck at cleaning and hire a housekeeper too and I am far from wealthy.
c) is she uptight because she is macro? c'mon people! Most macros are laid back hippies that believe in eating a more seasonal, local, non processed diet. Because she doesn't want to support what McDonalds stands for both globally and physically that makes her uptight?

Lets go back to complaining about the president of Urban Outfitters and leave Gwyneth alone. My god, it could be worse... she could be having a melt down in front of the world like Britney Spears.

Heh. This made me laugh because, where I live (in the heart of the hippiest neighbourhood in Hippieville... aka Vancouver, BC), the hippies manage to be macro AND uptight. Don't be fooled by their laid-back demeanour! ;)

Having said that, this room seems cute enough, though not my style. And I'm assuming that there are toys in there... somewhere?

Whats with the canopy over the bed? - grey and yellow patterned doesn't go with the pink and white at all - urgh!

I'll bet Apple feels like a princess in that room. I would have loved it as a child.

I chose a light pink cotton canopy bed for my room when I was little. I think it came from Sears-ahhhh! Plus, I was into music and ballet so I had music note wallpaper with a dancing hippo border halfway up the wall. This is definitly a step up from that, but at the time I though my room was great.

Anyway, we all know about staging for photo shoots around here right? I'm sure she has toys. Also, really, all we're seeing is one little corner of the room.

My style or not (which I do happen to love a lot of the house) it's a nice place.

I was macro for a few years.... until I caved to the temptations of a s.o. who would come into my bed at 3 am smelling of Big Mac. NYC is a very macro friendly place to live...Boston is not. Surprising since the us macro movement was based in Boston at one point. I wasn't a hippie either actually.... a former goth turned indie not quite willing to put the work needed to be hipster chick living in the w'burg. Now..... mmmm Duck tastes good.... but damned if I didn't develop a gluten intolerance. I guess karmically I traded the Duck for the grains.

I love Vancouver.... very green friendly! An architecture firm I used to work for did an amazing project out there that I considered investing in.

Oh and to those who don't like the room.... I think its sweet but only teetering on quirky. It needs to be pushed fully over the ledge. It has great potential

So, to summarize, I think we would all agree that the room is very pretty, perhaps a little girls' dream, but not very practical or child-friendly (and not even necessarily that same girl's mom's dream, macro or not).

I heart my house cleaner but still would never have a white rug, throw, flor, or other. And I would be afraid of my very young child getting tangled in those drapes in some lethal way, but that's my own (non-macro) uptight neurosis.

If I could design any room for my daughter, it wouldn't be that one, but then, it might not be the room she wanted. I bet this was Apple's dream.

When you have as much money as GP you can have any color carpet/rug you dang well please AND you can have someone to clean it!

and then again, WHO CAREERS what does GP's daughter bedroom look like. It is clear she in not like the rest of people that traffic this blog. C'mon, americans have to stop pretending they are who they are not. Middle class citizens, lets not pretend to be hollywood personalities, bcs you are not and you'll never have the financial means of them.

While everyone is going on about how over-the-top GP is because of her daughter's room, let's acknowledge that the headboard is from Ballard Designs which is hardly an uptight, Hollywood, VIP source. I do agree that white carpet/area rug is incredibly impractical for a child's room, but hey, she can afford to replace it or have it professionally cleaned every year if she needs to!

She's not pretentious because she eats a macrobiotic diet or anything; she's pretentious and annoying and just so happens to eat that way. I'd say the same thing about her if she lived off of beef jerky and Paps Blue Ribbon.

The room looks nice enough I guess, but there is a definite cold, "don't move anything out of its place", museum feeling to it. I guess it's not surprising given the fact that Gwen likely picked everything out.

My son doesn't have toys in his bedroom but lots of books. We have plenty of other rooms for toys and I bet GP does too.

Do all of you who bash her happen to know her personally? I mean really? You are talking about someone on such a personal level and you most likely only know her from her films or the gossip pages! As for the room and the means of the individuals here and the issue of American middle class versus Hollywood dollars.... this is a design blog. Cool things...cool designs... nifty neato...yo. Since when is it Perez Hilton?! Cmon, these people are just trying to live their lives and do wht they enjoy to do. They happen to enjoy acting and they are good enough at it to have become quite successful. You will find just as many gossip rags calling GP a sweetheart as you will a pretentious ninny so lets move on to more important things shall we?

One does the best with what we have, if our personal best allows us to live in semi-personality luxury, WE WILL, not to get in a magazine, but because it lets us feel better about ourselves, lets us be more relaxed and hence, react better and make better life choices in the end. Every "home redecorating/remodeling tv show has something in common, people living in messy homes feel crappy or have HUGE emotional baggage.) Sometimes all it takes to get there is a few corrections here and there (and that's what keeps AT alive). Am I trying to live a fake hollywood life if I decide to purchase a white rug or make my kids live in a beautiful room? That's a completely stupid comment.

Adore the canopy, great for turning beds into tents and fairy castles and hideaways from dinosaurs. Nice shade of pink, am so sick of the really girly pastel pinks (also quite difficult to clean). Love the monogrammed pillow cases-- anyone know where I can find them?

I like the design of the room. I would like to see more pictures of it, but looking at the rest of the house this room fits in very nicely. White carpet in a kid's room isn't the most practical, but I think it's gorgeous and clean. For some of us, rugs and carpet must last for a long time. If I could afford a summer home, maybe I would lay white carpet in the kids room, too.
Guessing from how much my daughter would love that canopy, I bet Apple loves it too.

Seriously, the bed is really pretty, but not loving the colors, and the room feels a wee tad formal for a 4 year old.

I think it's cute, but who gives a crap about Gynewth's lifestyle? Its not like arguing about her "macro uptightness" is going to make a difference, and like previous comments above say, you don't know her personally so why are you all bitching about her? That isn't even the point of this site, This is called Apartment Therapy, not Star Magazine.com. It's about design, not petty gossip. So next time you see a room critique it on its design and beauty, or in some cases need of beauty and not the owners.

yes but notice they said this is her bedroom. not her playroom. in the hamptons.
meaning:
she only sleeps in the room. probably doesn't get it very dirty.
gwen likes to spend most of her time in england, so they probably do not stay long in this house.

and i loooove the canopy! :) i always wanted one when i was a little girl but got bunk beds instead.

I think the weirdness comes from GP's decidedly non-mommy vibe. For some reason I see her maybe diapering Mario Batali before a Moses or Apple. But, I've had a few PBR's already this morning.

Gwenyth or no Gwenyth it's a very beautiful sterile bedroom. It reminds me of a luxury hotel. I guess I'm just a little bit more into clutter and I'm sure it doesn't usually look like that - let's not forget the team of stylists who worked all morning to get it looking just so.
Apple is a little princess growing up in a surreal world of luxury and her bedroom reflect this.
