If you've been tearing your hair out because your little one wants a princess-themed room but you can't abide pink, look no further for inspiration. Jennifer of the children's interior consulting firm Minor Details recently posted some pictures of an almost-finished playroom project, and we were charmed by the results...

Jennifer writes, "The direction for the playroom was Princess and the Pea meets Enchanted Forest. The room is 75% complete and I could not be happier....and so is a little 3 1/2 year old!!!"

What makes this room fresh and interesting is not just the almost complete absence of stereotypical princessy pink. The purple tones are a sophisticated-yet-fun alternative, but we were really wowed by the unexpected use of turquoise in the room. The stacked mattresses in the bed are magical, balanced by the beautiful (and practical) craft table and play kitchen.

I love purple so much. My walls are purple; very calming, yet intense and warm.

Are the mattresses all just thin mattresses stacked together, or are they attached somehow? I really like the look of that! My kids would tear them apart in no time if they weren't attached, but I'd LOVE something like that in my room!

It's so cute! But I wonder if the stacked mattress is orthopedically correct...

If not kdka, you can always layers different types of memory foam over each other to achieve a proper mattress feel. That's what I did with my princess and the pea themed room. LOL

The bed is awesome. But the gray wall look a bit depressing.
