Look! Striped Bedroom Set

We walked into a design showroom yesterday and this window display stopped us in our tracks. Literally. The side of us that wants to support artisans wanted to buy it on the spot. But the diy side of us won the fight and we can't wait to try to recreate the look at home. See how we'd go about doing so after the jump...

Now the bed is fabulous in it's own right without the striped paint treatment. But with the stripes, it adds some serious spunk to the space. Try masking off straight lines on a Craigslist or auction find to accomplish the same look. If it has wicker or woven bits, hit it with spray paint when possible. It won't gum up around the holes and will keep things nice and even.

To complete the look, hit the sand paper drawer and pick the smallest number grade you have and rub down corners and random places until your desired level of "worn" is achieved. To do long skinny stripes of distressing, try folding your paper and sanding with the fold itself!

These painted stripes would be great on almost any type of furniture... how about a child-sized table? Or a chest of drawers? Or a chair, or, or... my mind is spinning!!

This is really expertly done. The colors are just the right mix of tones, matching, contrasting and clashing, not too bright. Reminds me of Paul Smith's signature stripe. The wonderful, artful retro fabrics bring it all together, making sure it's not silly.

Lots of raccoons kicked the bucket for those hats, but I have to admit I had one way back when. Obviously they are all vintage.

*swoon!*
When I have a daughter... her room will look like this.
My college comforter was a bright Ralph Lauren plaid in these same colors. My mom thought I was insane, but I adored the playful, candy-like feel of it. So cheerful! So fun!

I saw this bed a few months ago at a store in Houston and had to take a phone photo. It was just too cool not to save for a later project!
Thanks for the tips! I was wondering how to get the distressing right.

It would look great in my 2nd bedroom. So cute. Until I got to the creepy, creepy clowns.
