Look! Wall Art Made with Embroidery Hoops

look-hoops.jpgWe recently spied this display that Taryn (who runs an Etsy shop called littlewhirl) created for her daughter's room. Our first thought: How charming! Our second thought: Hey, we could do that!

look-hoops-2.jpgIf you're a frustrated fabric junkie with a huge stockpile of material but no time for involved projects, creating a wall display like this may help you deal with your jones. What makes Taryn's project work so beautifully is a combination of three things:

  • using at least three or four different sizes of hoops,
  • choosing a variety of patterns and colors with a unifying principle (in this case, all the fabrics Taryn chose are vintage or vintage-inspired), and
  • hanging the hoops loosely, but still closely spaced, so that you get the sense of bubbles floating on the wall.

Thanks for sharing, Taryn!

I love this idea! If the decals I want to use won't work, I'll definitely try this!

Cool, I saw this same picture a few months back on MakeBabyStuff! I had forgotten about it, thanks for the reminder. Must go buy some hoops.

There are some great instructions on how to make these at The Purl Bee. I made some for my little girl's room and we both love them!

I saw this same idea in Good Housekeeping a few years ago. I thought it was adorable. My great-grandmother was an avid quilter, and my daugther was the first child born into the family who didn't have a quilt made by her before she died. I took scraps from her fabric stash and one beautiful hand embroidered butterfly square that would have been used for a quilt and hung them above my daughter's bed with embroidery hoops. It still makes me smile and remember her each time I walk into my daughter's room.
