Rachel sent us a great tip for these alternative (candy-free) Easter baskets she made for own little ones. We love the idea of something different for Easter; how many plastic eggs filled with chocolate and stuff bunnies can a kid have? The grandparents, aunts and uncles, and friends will take care of the sweets so consider making an alternative "basket" for your darlings.

That's cute for an older child--much older--but don't most kids want get up on Easter morning to a basket from the Easter bunny with at least some candy in it? How sad to be told, "don't worry, Grandma (or whomever) will be bringing you way too much candy later!" Feh. But then everyone has their own traditions.
(BTW, I'm not putting candy in my daughter's basket, but she's only a baby.)

Wow, my mom always gave us "practical" easter baskets (purses, mugs, one year a cafeteria plate...). Up until last year when I was 24 she still gave me one! But I got married this year, so I'm not expecting one. I would appreciate the kitchen gadgets, though!

I prefer these kinds of baskets and so do my kids. I still put some candy in, but they appreciate getting little toys and gifts that last a while.
