Collapsible Platypus Water Bottle

061709-platypus.jpg We've always been enamored by big things that take up little space. Quite honestly, we blame Inspector Gadget and his pop out helicopters, roller skates and the like. So when we came across this ridiculously versatile water bottle, our go go gadget hearts leapt for joy! It's perfect for summer sports, camping trips, airports and might make it past security at summer events that force you to pay $4 for a bottle of water! It weighs next to nothing, goes anywhere and details are after the jump!

There are several different sizes available for this splendid bottle. It just depends on which retailer you would like to purchase from. We found them at LL Bean, REI, Amazon, Bass Pro, The North Face and more. Check the store locater on over at Platypus, there's bound to be multiple options at smaller stores in your area!

They're easier to carry than a Sigg, BPA free and can be crammed into almost any pocket in any bag while you're out and on the go! They do make special cleaning kits, adapters, and bells and whistles if you plan on taking them on the trail, but for an average family on the go, we're thinking a bottle brush will do just fine!

I used to have a platypus bag and honestly, I think that they are a pain to clean - perhaps the cleaning kit they sell would do the job, but a bottle brush didn't cut it for me (but to be fair, I tend to be a germaphobe ;-)

I have a 0.5L and 1.0 L bottle that I like to use for the airplane. They don't weigh anything or take up any space. I love them and highly recommend them. They can be a little awkward to drink from though since they have no structure to them. It sometimes requires 2 hands, especially with the 1.0L bottle.
I only use them for water, so I don't wash them after every use. I usually squirt some soap in there and swish it around to wash them.

These bottles could be very useful, in the right situations, and I would definitely give them a try.

A suggestion about cleaning...especially for germophobes... try using a drop or two of Nutribiotic grapefruit seed extract when rinsing out water bottles, instead of soap.

I use this to clean everything from toothbrushes to produce. It works very well when rinsing out water bottles as it cleans them without lathering up like soap, and, since you can also take GSE internally (a few drops in a glass of water or juice) it won't harm you, like soap might.

I buy mine at a healthfood store or a vitamin shop and a small bottle lasts for years.
