Ice Cream Cone Cupcake Pan by Williams-Sonoma

Truly the best of both worlds. Williams-Sonoma's Ice Cream Cone Cupcake Pans are a fun bit of deception. What looks like an tray of ordinary ice cream cones is really a batch of yellow cupcakes, buttercream-iced to look like they are topped with ice cream.

 
 

We would use these for outdoor parties, when it was too hot to serve ice cream, and not just to kids. These pans are just $32.00, make six cupcakes at a time, and are cast-aluminum with a nonstick finish. A rolled fondant kit provides the personalization on top.

These would be super-easy from a mix, but we also like the notion of making David Lebovitz's Black-Bottom cupcakes with them. That creamy centre really lends itself to the illusion of ice cream.

I like the idea, but their pans are always so expensive and it only makes 6 at a time. I think i'd stick to making cupcakes inside real ice cream cones. Cheaper, and you can make a lot at once.

Very cute, but I agree with mangosteen that "just $32" is awfully steep for a 6-up pan. I still might be tempted though.

I did the cupcake in a cone thing for my son's 2nd bday party. It was great! The kids could eat the cupcakes without making a big mess...since licking the icing is all most of them are interested in usually anyways.

You fill the cones about 2/3rds full with cupcake batter and bake as usual. Frost them with an icing bag to make the icing swirl up and up like a soft serve cone.

I have the pan -- got it as a gift -- but I haven't used it yet. I have trouble convincing myself the cupcakes are going to stand up the way they do in the picture. Did anyone have a problem with that, or am I paranoid?

Yes, they are a bit top-heavy, not sure how to remedy that, I cram them all together on a tray to prop each other up, but, if one starts to tip, they all tip. I made a batch of 18 - three go-rounds in the pan - for a recent birthday party and three tipped and fell off the tray while transporting them to the fridge for storage. Luckily, the 10 second rule applied. Hehehe. Just kidding. I ate one and a half of them and tossed the rest.

I will warn about the non-stick coating. It's not so good. I tried two rounds w/out any success, they broke apart as I banged and jiggled and banged again on the back of the pan. Last time, I used 'Baker's Joy' oil/flour spray, and they popped right out. Truly a joy.
