Peas Popsicles

2009-09-03-peas.jpg

Huh?? That's what we said when we first read about these peas popsicles at Weelicious.

Supposedly, it's a great way to get your kids to eat those green peas. If you're kid isn't eating them now, you've got nothing to lose so why not give it a go? You'll need a bag of frozen peas, popsicle molds and water. Pour peas into the molds, cover with cold water and insert sticks. Freeze and serve. Tell us if it works for you!

Apparently lots of people (esp. kids) like eating plain frozen peas minus the pops.

i hate peas but i love this. there's nothing that says all "treats" need to be sweet. and i think it's a great way for kids to have fun with (and, in this case, cool off with) food that's actually good for them.

Haven't tried popsicles, but my kids love frozen peas right out of the bag. Kinda weird:)

HHmmm...this bears further experimentation and examination.

What age would this be appropriate for, and how long would it take for a single pea to thaw once it's in a child's mouth?>

Is a single frozen pea a choking hazard?

So, it looks completely disgusting to me, but I showed the picture to my 3-year-old and said, "Avery, would you eat this?" And she said yes, she would. So there you go.

My kids love eating frozen vegetables, once they are cooked and on the dinner plate they have lost all appeal!!! So I let them "help" while I prepare!!!

growing up, we spent summers with our grandma who kicked us out the door after breakfast and told us not to come back until dinner. Her outdoor freezer was stocked with eskimo pies, frozen grapes and frozen corn. We ate the latter two up daily! Add in the cherry, apricot and apple tree and the grape arbor and we were well fed kidlets.

(THough I have trouble eating fruits and veggies now. They never taste as good as grandma's were.)

My 3yo LOVES frozen peas right out of the bag and requests them often.
We make "green smoothies" often and I freeze the extras in popcicle molds. He loves those too.
(Green smoothies are lots of yummy fruit with some mild tasting greens blended in. Baby spinach is our favorite. I swear you don't taste it over the banana and berries.)

I used to love eating frozen peas (and now sometimes pick up a small handful while I'm cooking with them)!

Plus, peas were great way to learn how to swallow pills when I was a kid. Screw it up? No problem. Chew away.

My daughter insisted on frozen green beans and broccoli from age 2 on. straight out the bag. I'll have to run this by her!

If my husband isn't home I still prefer to eat frozen green beans (especially when there aren't pretty fresh ones at the store).
My mom really hates cooking so the fact that my sister and I loved frozen green beans and peas meant she didn't have to stress about (over)cooking the veggies. I don't think I would have liked the peas in a popsicle format though.

My mom always gave us frozen peas in a dish to eat while she prepared dinner. I still love them, and do the same for my daughter. She adores them. Sweet, non-choke-on-able, cool and fun finger food--they are perfect.

I actually kind of doubt she would eat them this way. Popsicles usually don't have texture like that. But I do make popsicles with applesauce that she loves.

Another use for frozen peas -- a bag of them makes a great ice pack that conforms easily to your injury.

Learned this when I had my wisdom teeth removed!
