Playtray for Stokke Tripp Trapp

2009-06-playtray.jpg

For many, the selling point of the Stokke Tripp Trapp chair is that it pulls all the way up to the table so the baby or child isn't left out of the family dining circle. But for beginning eaters this can be a messy proposition. Stokke is sticking to their guns, but a Danish company developed the Playtray to fit the Tripp Trapp and it's coming to the US this summer.

Stokke has their own product, the Table Top, which they think addresses the issue of mess-makers, but what we like about the Playtray is it makes the chair more versatile because you can use it the middle of your kitchen or on your porch and don't need to be anywhere near a table.

Playtray has been available in Europe for awhile and must be well liked enough that they think the North American market is hungry for it. It's now available for pre-order ($90) and will be shipping out in mid-July.

Are Tripp Trapp fans out there excited for the Playtray or do you like the chair just the way it is? (cue Billy Joel.)

OK - I was excited to buy a super cheap Tripp Trapp at a yard sale until I discovered that you cannot detach the straps for cleaning?

Please tell me I'm wrong.

We have the trip-trap chair for our son and bought a tray since we actually on a daily basis eat at our kitchen counter which is a bit higher than the trip-trap can accomodate. The one thing that I did not like when we put the tray on is that it ripped the top coat of the chair off. Our chair is red and it removed the shiny layer right out.

Just a note to people that might consider buying a tray.

i don't see why a plastic tray for a $200 chair costs $90.

I like the idea of the tray, but not enough to spend $90 on it.

leepert - I don't have the Tripp Trapp but a lot of high chair straps won't come off for cleaning. I just use a method wipe about once a week to really get in there and clean the grime off and it works really well. The rest of the time I get in there right away with a wet cloth. Not a perfect solution but it works so far.

This tray makes the Trip-Trap look so much like the Svan high chair - might as well just buy a Svan to begin with! It comes with the tray, plus has a crotch bar which makes it much easier to use for younger babies -- I couldn't get my wriggly not-quite-one-year-olds to stay in a Trip-Trap, they just scooted their bums forward and off the seat. But with the Svan high chair, we had the tray with the crotch bar which kept the kids in place. Once they got a bit older, we took the tray away and now use them pushed up to the table.

Leepert - my tripp trapp's strap can be removed by loosening a screw underneath the strap.

We don't have the Tripp Trapp but a very similar model and my only complaint is with the tray! Ours has a tray attachment, but it doesn't have a "lip" to stop her from pulling food straight onto her lap as she learns how to feed herself. This would be really great if it fit ours aw well!! The price however. . .??
