Breakfast Fun: Stamp Your Toast

091009-toast1.jpg It's hard not to love toast. Warm bread with butter or jam, it could be one of life's most perfect foods (or maybe we are just more toast-tastic than most). It's also a great way to make the day a little more special. For awhile now we've had our eye on "toast stampers" that keep popping up, but we had a hard time paying for something that we already owned.... cookie cutters. It's a great way to get the kids in the kitchen, click through to see how!

041009-toast2.jpg Other toast stampers we've seen are essentially cookie cutters. You can see a few examples here, here and here. So like any resourceful person, we hit up the cookie cutter jar.

041009-toast3.jpg We pressed the cutter into the bread, but not through it. Next up, slide it in your toaster and enjoy when done. We added a bit of jelly to our heart to make it tastier and prettier as well. It would be a great way to have kids help out in the morning without the risk of harm or injury while in the kitchen. It could also be a great way to spice up a plain grilled cheese sandwich!

Tip: We did try using a heartier piece of bread for this experiment, although it wasn't able to take the cutter's pressure in the same way and didn't take the indentations we were trying to leave. So this project might be best when using a regular sandwich bread instead of something more rustic.

So dust off your cookie cutters and get them out of storage, there's fun waiting to begin!

I do this very thing every valentine's day for my hubby and little boy, but I really should do it more often.

My mother used to use a Mickey Mouse stamper for my toast growing up -- brings back good memories :)
