Found: Sippy Cup Bottle Topper

103609-sippytop.jpg While cruising through our local Kansas City news, we happened upon a story about a local man who has developed a new product aimed at parents. It's called "The Sippy Top" and screws on to bottles for peace of mind, on the go drinking. Our thoughts and details after the jump...

The Sippy Top retails for $4.99 and fits on your standard water bottle.

Although we like the idea of having a fall back sippy cup (or not having to bring one at all), we've become pretty regular about bringing along our own water bottles. Although there are times where the dishes just don't get done (thank you Glee) and we find ourselves without. Might be a great thing to have buried in your purse or diaper bag for an on the go emergency.

What do you think? Is the Sippy Top something you'd carry around or find useful? Sound off in the comments below!

I really like my similar set from One Step Ahead (http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=442780&cmSource=Search). It's great when traveling to have if the sippy has juice in it and you want to serve water without throwing out the juice. Great for events where bottled water is everywhere or when you don't want older kids to soak themselves.

It sounds like a great idea... but maybe a little pricey?

This would be handy in a pinch, but I'm not a fan of bottled water... As moms of newborns, many of us were obsessed with avoiding BPA in bottles... since BPA can leach out into the milk while the baby is drinking... But now as toddlers, we'll give them water that has been sitting in a BPA container for months before we open it?

I really do my best to avoid bottled water... I use the kleen kanteen sippy cups and filtered tap water. bottled water is only for our emergency situations. so far, we haven't ever had the need to resort to bottle water.

Great idea! I have a similar product from Gerber that I use with my boys a lot more frequently than I'd imagined.

it seems like a cool idea for someone who really needs a sippy cup. they're nice for long car rides, that's for sure.

in general, though, i found it worked just as well to help my boys take a drink from my own bottle, cup or straw beginning around 9-10 months. at that age, while breastfeeding, they didn't need a full cup of water to themselves. just sips.

they mastered drinking from an open cup (at the table and outdoors) without spilling around 18-24 months. learning not to intentionally pour the water out is another story . . . ;)

I bought Gerber's version of this recently in preparation for a trip. It didn't work all that well and we found that our son did much better with a sport-top water bottle when we didn't have access to clean water for our sippies.

we never used a sippy cup party because of 'sippy cup teeth' http://www.iloveindia.com/parenting/kids-teeth/sippy-cups-and-cavities.html
and party because as a Montessori mom we started using a cup from the offset. Started with an espresso cup with just a tiny amount in the bottom, worked up to pouring the drink himself and not spilling any by the time he was 18mnths. When we were on the go I used a water bottle with a straw and I had a similar gadget to the one shown which screws to the top of a PET bottle but you put a straw in it instead, it also had a cap so one you attached it you could leave it on.

Agree, agree, agree with all the posts about no sippy cups. My 10 month old drinks from an open cup or a straw. I am a speech pathologist and there is a huge movement against the sippy cup because it is no different than a bottle in terms of the oral motor skills it requires. Not to mention the bad stuff it does to your teeth. I wish I could tell more people that is possible for little ones to use a straw at such a young age. I know it is convenient at times to use a sippy cup but it's not worth all the negatives, in my opinion.
