A soft touch. When looking for feeding spoons for baby, we remember seeing many hard plastic ones.
Many seemed too tough for a young baby just learning to eat solids.
We were glad to find the Good Plus Baby Spoon by Marna.

The Good Plus Baby Spoon is made of a pliable silicone. It's dishwasher safe and can even be boiled for sterilization.
The only disappointment? The price. It's $19 here.
my favorite spoons, and I'm still trying to track them down, are little espresso spoons. perfect for little mouths!

I totally agree with mangosteen: the best spoons are demitasse. Perfect size.
They have them in packs of 6 at ikea, in case anyone is looking...

The best feeding spoons (and I have tried many, many) were at IKEA, and came with the clear plastic bowl and penguin sippy cup --the penguin had an orange cap. The spoons themselves had a wide shallow bowl, and blue rubber coated handle. As with many IKEA items, they are no longer available (I treasure the 2 chewed-on ones that I have)
The current one is okay; still better than most, but not as great as the earlier version. Wish they hadn't changed it.

Budino: thanks for the tip! Have to get to Ikea soon anyway and will pick some up.

Gerber makes these same silicone spoons and I've found them in several grocery stores and discount stores. They are awesome–easy to clean and the flat part is wonderful for scraping sweet potato out of a bowl or off of a cheek. I think I've bought them 2 for $6, but definitely not $19.

The best spoons I've used are these ones by Baby Bjorn. They're hard plastic and therefore not as soft as silicone spoons (which I've tried and didn't really care for), but the bowl part of the spoon is a FANTASTIC design for learning how to self-feed. My toddler still prefers to use these spoons, because he gets frustrated with how much food falls off most other utensils designed for small children.
And for $20, you get two spoons AND a sturdy, good-sized bowl (or you can buy just the spoons, at $10 a pair).

Thanks Doppelganger! Eureka! They look just like the ones that IKEA knocked off (the ones that IKEA doesn't make anymore) thatI mentioned in my post!

Another great place to find the demitasse spoons and other goodness is Pearl River in downtown NYC. They are our best spoons....
