We cherish our collection of kids' tableware and store it in an upper cabinet that's convenient for us. But we like the idea of storing their dishes in a lower cabinet or drawer that's accessible for them. They can take ownership and responsibility for setting the table and putting clean dishes away. Giving them nice things to use and organizing them properly sets a great example.
And if you're wondering where those colorful drawer box dividers come from, Sharilyn made them herself. She offers a great tutorial on her site.

i love this! it would take some thought to figure out whether it reasonably makes sense in my kitchen though. it's so simple to keep all bowls together, all plates, all cups . . . but a kid-dishes area so they can set their own place at the table is a very cool idea.

My kids would love this. My younger son LOVED to help set the table for breakfast when he was just 18 months old. Great idea! I'll have to keep it in mind!

Wow! My daughter is ALWAYS asking to pick out her own dishes, and I always pick her up so she can rummage through her things in the cupboard. Seriously! HOW did I not think of this myself??? Going home to do this IMMEDIATELY! This will make me a hero. =)

we store our kid's dishes/sippy cups/bottles in a low cabinet. my kids are responsible for unloading these dishes (and the silverware) from the dishwasher. they can also help set the table.

I love this idea - I only wish I had a low drawer for my guy to use. I just joined the latest Kitchen Cure, so I'm determined to find a solution! Great idea.

I too keep kids plates/cups/bowls in a lower cabinet. It never occurred to me that other people didn't! We had this very deep cabinet with a very small openin
