Küster K1 High Chair

2008-03-25-kuster.jpg

Here's another option for parents looking for a high chair with an extended life span. Previously only available in Europe, the Küster K1 high chair now has a U.S. distributor and is intended for use from six months to six years.

The K1 may look large with its beechwood body, but the chrome legs fold flat so you can store it when not in use. The footrest adjusts to five positions and the tray is removable so older children can eat at the table with the boost in height they need.

Another nice feature is the rear storage basket for holding bibs, toys, etc. The high back is supposed to encourage correct posture and is great for taller kids.

Made by Küster, the K1 is available in beech or white and costs $250. The cushion is an additional $50. Sold (with free shipping) by Bare Babies.

This thing is so large, I am not sure where it would fit. I also do not really care for the design. I would go for something with a smaller footprint.

Not a fan. Quite ugly and it doesn't have wheels. I move my highchair so much its gotta have wheels!

Almost looks like it could "lift off" into outerspace. :)

While we're on this topic, can anyone recommend a good quality high chair? Originally, my husband and I were looking at the Stokke chair. But after watching a friend's finger paint with saliva all over a standard high schair we've decided we don't want something like that happening right at the dinner table (as would happen with the Stokke chair). Plus, Consumer Reports gave the Stokke chair a fairly low score.

That thing is hideous.

PrettyKitty, after using (and repeatedly tripping over) a gigantic $100 standard-issue-from-BabiesRus high chair with our first child, we got the Antilop from Ikea. It's fantastically simple. There's no tiny nooks and crannies or folds of fabric for food to get caught in, so it's super easy to clean. It's got a small footprint, and costs around $20. I highly recommend it. If you would rather have wood, they do carry a nice simple wooden high chair, but I can't find it on the Ikea web site. I think it runs about $40.

Thanks missuswayne. How sturdy is the Antilop?

I am sorry, but this highchair is so ugly! There are other much more attractive chairs meant to last beyond babyhood.

I agree about the antilop from Ikea--easy to clean, no tipping and very cheap. We used for about a year and it seems to have stayed in very good condition.
