Melissa & Doug Food Groups Play Set

2007.06.26.nursery.melissaanddoug.foodgroups1.jpg

We have blogged about kids and food on AT:Nursery, specifically about teaching children about food label literacy and the sameness of restaurant children's menus, so we were very excited last weekend to find a Melissa & Doug product that helps teach children about making good food choices. Using the Food Groups set, kids can explore how to put together a well-balanced meal and reinforce their food group knowledge through play.

The set comes packaged in 4 individual crates, broken down by food group, and all of the foods are easily recognizable.

The Food Groups Set is $19.95, made of wood (so it will last forever) and is appropriate for ages 3+. And most importantly, it is fun!

We have this set and my toddler loves it. Not too sure how the weiner fits into a "well-balanced meal", though to his credit, my little guy refers to the patty as a "veggie burger". :)

This is a really great company. I bought one of their alphabet set at a thrift store. When I called asking about buying two missing letters, they said, send us $2 in postage and we'll send them to you.
