My Plate-Mate

2008-03-27-plate mate.jpg

Sometimes the simplest ideas and designs are the best ones. The Plate-mate spill guard attaches to a standard plate and is a great tool for toddlers learning to feed themselves. Not only does it prevent spills, but the raised rim helps scoop food onto the utensil to help build confidence and encourage independence.

Plate-Mates are made of plastic - FDA approved food grade plastic which is PVC-free, latex-free and phthalate-free. They're dishwasher safe (top rack recommended) and FDA approved for microwave use (though the creators point out that many experts caution against microwaving plastics of any kind).

Available in white, pink or blue, they sell for $7.95 each or 3 for $18.95. Find them here.

That is so smart! I even have a few plates I don't use because I feel they're too flat and worry my food will fall off! This is a great solution. Haha.

Cute but how about a bowl instead of a plate?

Seriously, just use a bowl. We feed our 14 mo old some things in a mug, because just by wiggling the spoon a little she can manage to scoop something up.

We love our My Plate-Mate for our 20 mo old. Even with a regular bowl the food would always run up and fall over the side and spill. The plate mate is curved so food always falls back onto the dish. We use it with bowls for oatmeal and with plates at dinner. My daughter loves that now she can use matching plates with her 4 yr old sister.
