We do love fabric lunchboxes, but considering all the stuff your kids are already carrying in their school bags they may be opening their lunch to find mangled sandwiches and mashed fruit. Already big fans of Sigg bottles, we were happy to discover that they now make sturdy, aluminum lunchboxes.

Sigg products have a reputation for being nearly indestructible which also makes these containers great for taking snacks to the playground, on hikes and family camping trips. The top locks and a rubber seal ensures they don't leak. They are food-safe, but, as Sigg emphasizes, they cannot be cooked in: "you're just plain crazy if you put these in a microwave oven." The Sigg Alu comes in three sizes and cost between $25-$30. We wish they had a handle, but suppose we can overlook that detail.
I think I'm going to have to get one of these for myself since I love the SIGG bottles! :)

I bought one for our contractor (who reno'd our kitchen and bathrooms), along with a sigg bottle, as he always brought his lunch every day in a grocery bag. Pretty cool looking set.

Wonder how heavy they are. They look sleek enough for camping.

I have been using one of these for almost a year now. I carry a back pack with books and other heavy things, and squished lunches were a chronic problem. This box has been the long-sought-after, perfect solution. It is just barely big enough for my lunch, no bigger and no smaller. Sometimes it is tricky to pack, but it fits neatly alongside my books in my bag. I like that there is no handle because it doesn't get snagged on anything in my bag. It is lightweight. And the top is a good surface for hot containers straight out of the microwave.
The one annoying thing is that because it is metal, things sometimes rattle around in there when I walk. I sometimes have to stuff it with a plastic bag so a jar or spoon won't rattle and drive me crazy.
