Type of space: Backyard Garden Box
Tell us about your outdoor project and how you enjoy it: We wanted to start a small garden, in our back yard. so we googled "garden boxes",went to the hardware store and built(well my husband built) an adorable garden box in our back yard. Last year we planted all fruits and veggies, this year we planted flowers. It is a great tool for kids to learn about nature and growing. my three year old and 17 month old are always busy helping with planting, watering and yes digging in our family garden box!
How did you create it?:
Materials:
4—2x6 planks, each cut into 4 foot
sections.
12 coarse-thread deck screws. Each
screw should be twice as long as the
thickness of the wood—3” for a 2x6.
Power drill
Weed cloth
Staple gun (optional)
8 cubic feet of soil mix: 1/3 peat moss,
1/3 vermiculite and 1/3 compost.
Directions:
1. Pre-drell 3 holes in the side of each board at one end.
2. Screw the boards together end-to-end with the deck
screws, rotating corners (attach the end of one bard to
the side of the other) until you have a complete square.
3. Staple the weed cloth to the bottom of the frame or
place the weed cloth on the ground at your selected
garden spot.
4. Fill the box with the soil mix, watering as you fill to
ensure that the soil settles. Wood lath or string can be
used to dicide the box into square-foot sections or you can leave the space open.
5. Add seeds or plants.

Hi there! We just planted our own veggie garden this weekend as well for our little one! Instead of building our own box, we got this 4x4" breathable box here:

They also do neat solutions for doing vertical hanging gardens...

Oh my gosh, i just got a woolly pocket too! But, instead of planting a veggie garden in my lil' meadow, I planted some ornamentals to beautify my living room. My plants seem to love it and are thriving.
