Is it better down where it's wetter? Katie's daughter wanted to find out with a mermaid party: Chloe wanted to have a mermaid party "before I get too old." I sewed mermaid tails for the girls and I'm pretty proud of my design--the fin part is open so they can slide their feet into it.

The boys got alligator hats. We painted their faces and took pictures of them in front of the beach sunset. We played charades (Ariel lost her voice). Searched for hidden treasure chests. And had a Sponge Bob pinata. I felt kind of bad for beating on Bob but he didn't seem to mind. My sister made the amazing cake out of fondant, hard-tack candy for the water, brown sugar for the sand and she scalloped a fruit roll-up for the mermaid tail.
