Our Party: Gabrielle and Alaina
New York

After a precarious start, twins Gabrielle and Alaina have truly blossomed. Mom Danielle writes: the girls were born 12.5 weeks early at less than two pounds each so celebrating their first birthday was a big deal to us. We chose butterflies as the theme and mainly focused on decorating in fun, bright colors.

The invitation (by Double E Designs) really set the tone for the party - it had bold colors, incorporated the butterfly theme in a subtle way and also showed our pride in our miracle preemies with the tagline "What a difference a year makes!"

The party took place on our rooftop deck and we had about 60 guests ranging from 9 months to 60+. I got a lot of inspiration for the party online - the poufs were a Martha Stewart project, the cupcake toppers and birthday banner all came from Etsy, the chocolate covered marshmallows and cupcake tower were inspired by Tom Kat Studio, etc.

My two favorite aspects of the party were the cake and the favors. We bought the cake from Flour Patch Bakery in NJ but it would be a very simple project to replicate at home since it's basically a plain cake decorated with cookies. And the favors included personalized buckets filled with goodies and decorated bubbles, both of which were a huge hit and a lot of fun to put together. One of the best things in the buckets were recycled chunky butterfly crayons I made that all of the kids loved.

You can see and read more about Gabrielle and Alaina's butterfly party here and here.

Thanks, Danielle!

We love a good party! If you'd like to share the good ideas and photos from your child's celebration with the Ohdeedoh community please submit through the My Party form found here.

is this on a roof top? Oh I would be constantly freaking out if I bring kids up there but it looks chic though.
