My Party: Sari
Boston, MA

Memories fade, but (digital) photos don't so we loved seeing photos of Sari as one of the centerpieces of her birthday party. Her mom Alex describes the big event: Sari's first birthday was a celebration of the most amazing year that she's given us. It was also a chance to try out all the great ideas that I'd seen while browsing countless blogs on maternity leave. We celebrated by having a brunch at our home with friends and family.

I based the theme on the invitation (from Tiny Prints)- bright green, pale pink and pale blue elephants with the "one" balloon. Guests were greeted with a photo banner of black and white pictures that I had taken of her every month on her birth day since birth at the same time and in the same place (banner idea courtesy of Sara Hicks Malone over at Party Perfect!).

The table was done up "Amy Atlas" style, all pink and green. There were jars of various pink and green candies, as well as a tall jar of elephant sugar cookies that my sister and I had lovingly piped and iced until 2 am the night before. I had a cake stand of small cupcake holders with baby-friendly snacks and grilled cheese sandwiches cut into hearts. There were also fruit kabobs, mini heart-shaped brownies and miniature caramel apples dusted with pink sugar (Party Perfect again!). A great banner of pink and green flags hung as a backdrop to the table (Giggleberry on Etsy).

For the adults, we had a selection of dips from a local Lebanese market, and a make-your-own Belgian waffle station with all the trimmings (the hit of the party!). Drinks were pink and green bottles of "Izze" soft drinks lined up on the table. The cake was a vanilla-lemon layer cake with pink icing and a few of the elephant cookies around it. My sister made Sari her own heart-shaped cake. For the favors, I cut a pretty scalloped edge onto pink paper bags and filled them with an animal puppet (there were some elephants in the mix, but I only found animal assortments) and a board booked called, "A cow says moo" as "moo" was Sari's first word! Everyone had a great time and she loved hearing the "happy birthday" song for the first time!

Thanks, Alex!

We love a good party! We just put together a new "My Party" Submission Form. If you'd like to share the good ideas and photos from your child's celebration with the Ohdeedoh community please submit through the form found right here.
