My Room: Gavril
Philadelphia

Jahje's baby Gavril is the lucky resident of this beautiful nursery. She tells us a bit about the inspiration and ideas behind its design: My husband and I designed the room together as we were expecting the arrival of our first child, who we did not know was a boy.

We wanted to create a room that would be a playful haven for our little one inhabited by a menagerie of animals in their own forest.

Since it's a rather small room (9'x11') we didn't want to overwhelm the space so we chose to place the mural on one wall as a backdrop for the crib. We also used white furniture so the color could be in the art and toys and my husband custom built bookshelves around our radiator providing much needed storage space.

The salon style pictures on the other wall were drawings that I made during and following my pregnancy which are tacked into thrift store frames with map pins so they can be swapped out in the future for Gavril's artwork.

I'm not usually one to dole out the compliments but this has to be the most beautiful nursery I've seen on this website. I abolutely LOVE it. The colours are so perfect and serene.
I would take precautions concerning the use of crib bumpers (even though they look gorgeous, SIDS and all that).

I'm in love with this room! Our baby is due in June and I've already been thinking of the nursery..this one is brilliant.

Thanks for the nice comments. The dresser was made for me when I graduated high school (years ago) but was updated with the knobs from Anthropologie last year. The crib is the Peyton crib by Bonavita.

Thanks also for the concern for the bumper but Gavril is actually almost 1 year old now and the bumper is now stashed in a closet and never really presented a problem since he wasn't much of a mover while he slept.

This entire room is lovely. And I'm so impressed with the Spool bird mobile! Having made a couple of these, I know that it's not easy getting them to balance just right. Yours is perfect!
