Netto Cub Crib and Changing Station at Overstock.com

2009-01-26-netto_over.jpg

If you love a bargain and don't demand perfection, we have a hot tip from two readers, Vanessa and Carla. The Netto Cub Crib and Changing Station are being offered on Overstock at a substantial discount or, in Vanessa's word, "insanely low prices."

Before you get too excited, you should know that these are considered "slight seconds." There are very slight imperfections to the finish but there is nothing wrong with the way it is built. They're also nonreturnable. (Note: these are the original in the Cub line, not the new Cub 2.0. See the current Netto line here.)

How "insanely low" are the prices? The crib is offered for $180, the changing station for $130 (regular retail is around $625 each). Vanessa has already ordered hers and we hope she lets us know in the comments below how it works out.

I liked the Netto crib online, but when I saw it in person, I was surprised to see that the wood on the sides and the back just looks like plywood or particleboard. Not attractive at all. Maybe that's the point, it's supposed to look like particleboard, but if so it went over my head. Also, I thought babies were supposed to get as much airflow in the crib as possible to prevent SIDS, it's why bumpers are frowned on. How can the baby get much airflow in a crib with three solid sides?

I've had a cub kids changing table for almost 2 years. And, while I think it's gorgeous, it's been a thorn in my side since I first ordered it.

I pre-ordered the first iteration of the station before they were officially out. When they delivered it, it wouldn't assemble properly. We called and they sent a new one AND people over to put it together for us in case we were the cause of the problem. This one wouldn't go together properly either, but since we were in desperate need of a changing table, we let the assembly guys cobble together a combo from table 1 and table 2. Within a few months, it started falling apart. The drawers wouldn't close properly and the bottom of the bottom drawer cracked. I called the store I purchased it from and they informed me that they had all been recalled but somehow we didn't get told. SO, they sent the new, re-tooled version (now with cabinets instead of drawers) and took away the old one. And since it's been replaced, on 2 separate occasions, I've found cam lock screws under the changing table that are literally cracked in half.

While the store we bought it from has been very, very accommodating, the furniture is junk. And, it's expensive junk. Stay away from it. ESPECIALLY if it's not version 2.0!

This is an AMAZING tip!!! We have the sparrow crib and I have been wrestling with whether or not to buy the matching changing table-but it's over $700! I have looked everywhere and at everything.

After reading Krs10joy's comment I contacted overstock and they said that the item may be returned if it is damaged or defective so I feel comfortable ordering it.

I am so excited. This is cheaper than anything at Target or even Walmart!

hey Pensils, I see only 2 solid sides.
It looks beautiful, and for that price, what a steal!

I agree with the comments above. It is complete junk. We bought the Netto Crib and have had for 5 months or so now. It came scratched and I really could not bother to return it. My son overgrew his moses basket and I wanted him to have his bed. I also thought it is made of wood, but it is all pressed pieces of whatever.... I would not recommend buying this brand to anyone.

ah yes - one tiny detail. I paid $600 for the crib alone, but for $180 it is totally worth it. Even if it damaged you can fix it or smth like that.

Wow, what a deal. We have the Netto Cub crib and really love it!
I wish I could find the matching shelf they used to have - the Stacker? But I haven't been able to find it anywhere.
We didn't get the changing table as I figured it wouldn't be useful for that long...

Thank you Vanessa and Carla and Oh Dee Doh! I just bought the crib and changing station for $312.93. At those prices, I'll take my chances. I've always loved the look of the Netto cribs but was planning on getting a Gulliver.

Was wondering if someone who owns the crib or changing table could comment on the color...we're putting together our baby's room and have Ikea dresser and shelving in birch. The crib (non-Ikea) we found is a close match. Can anyone comment on how close the Netto wood color is to the Ikea birch?

I actually was going to buy this off of craiglist for about $500 from Netto directly, but then my husband and I were looking for better pics and saw this fabulous deal from Overstock and ordered from there. The people from Netto were super nice. They assured me the stock sent to Overstock was new. Maybe contractually Overstock has to call them seconds since it's still being sold elsewhere for full price? I haven't received ours yet either, but for $313, you can't even get Ikea, but I guess we'll all see how it turns out.

Got my changer and my husband just assembled it. It's absolutely great and we are SO happy with this purchase. If they are not already sold out go and order yours now! There are no discolorations or problems with the wood or finish. Coming from somebody who has paid a lot for quality pieces I cannot say enough how thrilled I am to have found this deal. Great piece and great quality

Diddo to the above! We opened the changer also, looks new. What a fab deal, the price already went up a few bucks so if you can...grab one ASAP before gone.

Vanessa here - one of the original guinea pigs. Hubs and I put these together and couldn't be happier with how they look in our nursery.

I am a bit on the particular side, and I actually did notice some incredibly minor flaws. Tiny bubbles in the finish in one spot, an ever so slightly smashed corner, and a bit of discoloration in a couple small areas. Still, if I had not assembled it myself, I probably never would have noticed.

The quality is great. The style is fresh and modern. And for the price, I feel like I got a steal. Now maybe I can splurge on something else! Stokke Xplory stroller? Nurseryworks rocker? Maybe just put it in the college fund.

I have a question for anyone who bought this crib. Can it be converted into a toddler bed?

We just got our crib and changing station set up. I agree with the above posts. There are some very minor flaws (a few slight discolorations, etc) to the finish, but nothing that anyone will notice who didn't spend time setting them up. The pieces look incredible...unbelievable for the price. I would buy them again in a heartbeat.

Judybrown76- Yes, the crib can be converted to a toddler bed. You can buy the toddler rail seperately. It's available for $125 online at babyandmeboutique.com. If you're crafty it looks pretty easy to build a rail yourself and simply attach it to the four holes provided.

We received the crib and changing table this morning. Both boxes were beat up quite a bit from shipping. We took pictures to document this, anticipating the worst. A few pieces of the crib had pretty minor scratches (I'm a designer, and they didn't bother me...for the price, I was prepared for much worse), while the bottom support was actually missing a dowel. It appeared like someone had attempted to put it together unsuccessfully and then returned it, as opposed to it just having "minor imperfections to the finish." My husband thought it would be just fine to go ahead and assemble, so we did. The crib is very sturdy, very attractive, and we're overall very pleased with it and confident that it will be safe for our son. Also, in my opinion, the natural wood color is gorgeous.
We have yet to open and put together the changing table, but if our experience is much different with it (for better or for worse) I will post with updates.
In summary, I'm glad we bought the crib and no one will ever be able to tell that it's a "slight second"...not even us.

We got ours a while ago and assembled it today. They look great, you can definitely see some slight imperfections in the finish but they are no big deal (to me). There's no doubt that they are great value and so far, we are very pleased.

I was wondering if anyone had problems getting the changing table doors to close? Ours do close but you have to close both precisely at the same time which will be a pain when the LO gets here. (What I'm really hoping is that someone has a fix for this.)

I do realize this thread is more or less dead, but thought I'd check.
