I didn't think that "Gwyneth Paltrow hit it out of the park when she designed her daughter, Apple's bedroom" to begin with...

Hot pink as an accent... I am all about it. I actually just posted about hot pink when I saw a great house tour on Design*Sponge.

I am disappointed.

Maybe I'm just not feeling how Apple can be remotely comfortable in that space. Since it's *Apple's Room* you'd think it would be a space that would be reflective of Apple's needs and desires. Call me crazy, but is Apple even allowed to be in that room?

Yeah, I'm kind of "meh" on Apple's room, too, so.... I mean, it looks nice, but I'm certainly not drooling over it. I'm sure Gwyneth can pull together some more high end furnishings and eye-grabbing color-combos for Madonna's newest. I'm sure "impractical" is the least of either of their worries--they can probably have their help get those expensive bed clothes expertly deep cleaned once a week, and probably just replace the white carpet when it starts to show wear, etc.

it's a fancy bed in a white space. am i missing something?

It's cute for a little girl, but I don't like beds shoved into corners.

I agree with all the above comments. That pink is not placed well at all.

i agree with the majority above. i think gwyneth has great style and it would be sily of us to think that she couldn't design a beautiful room. but at the same time i am a little apprehensive about a room for a little girl with no "shit" lying about. i mean my own daughter is apple's age and i KNOW what this child's room would look like in real life. where are apple's books and toys and THINGS?!?!? and shame on whomever (stylist? gwyneth? maid?)put all of those things away for the photo shoot, if indeed that is what happened.
i think i speak for everyone reading this when i say all we design junkies want to see is INSIDE your home, what do you have, use, keep? what does apple's "shit" look like? what are her favorite books and stuffed animals? and give me a break with the 'A' pillows. least favorite part.

I think the room looks nice, but I agree that it doesn't look very kid-friendly at all.

However... with an unlimited budget (or a ridiculously large budget), I think you can make anything look nice. Well... unless you're Donald Trump. :)

I think this site has spoiled me. There are so many other moms (and dads) who put together really cool rooms and get in there and sew bedding or make canopy's and paint nightstands or stools to match everything else. I somehow feel that Gwenyth "designed" her room by saying "I like pink. And I don't want the canopy to match perfectly. Some sort of stool would be nice. And pictures" and then someone else bought it all and put it together. But then that's me being cynical.

This looks like it was designed for a teenager, not a little girl. Meh.

@ grlwprls: Actually, Apple picked out the pink color of the room. Gwyneth says so, in the previous Domino tour of her house. And I remember the room to be actually quite cute- it isn't this empty. Its just that the picture used here is not flattering :)

It doesn't look like a child's room at all with all that white and everything so high up! Maybe there's another room filled with childrens books and building blocks and art supplies where kids can be kids.

Let's see....white carpet. Probably not going to get to do a lot of coloring in that room. A top heavy pedestal table and a huge step stool- my kid is four going on five and would still have trouble getting out of bed in the middle of the night with those two next to the bed.

I'm sure it's a lovely design in person, but except for the A's on the bed, where is this kids personality? Where are her favorite bed books stored? Is there a desk? And what is the fabric or anything under the canopy?

This looks like a great beginning, but a boring bed room. I hope there is more to the room than what we've seen.

I'd be more impressed if she created Madonnas dream room on a $500 budget and a lot of DIY and hard work... But that's never gonna happen!

It's ok, not stunning, not awful.

The only thing I really question is the height of the bed. A small child should have a bed that she can get in and out of easily. I would never, ever have a little kid sleep in a bed that high.

I like it. I think it's pretty... and I'm sure Apple probably has a "play room" or some other room that she plays with crayons and markers and crap.

Then again... Crayola now makes paint, markers, and crayons that only color on "magic" paper. Maybe she has that... or just doesn't like coloring.

Ouch, tough crowd. I don't think it's the worst thing I've ever seen but also not totally the most creative either. As for the comments about there not being stuff all over, I think I would have picked up any stuff on the floor too before someone came to photograph my kids room. Tell me you wouldn't do the same?

I like the heavy fabrics and the bed is cozy in the corner giving a tent-like secure effect. The bed is cute but the rest of the room appears so stark in contrast. It lacks creativity and probably is not a very soothing color for a backdrop to get a child to fall asleep. I don't recognize the pic on the wall but it is not childlike. The room should be about the child as it is her space not about the adults. The spool table although current is impractical, tipsy and cold. Woods are so much warmer for children than iron or steel. The rug has no warmth either. It is a bit stark. This room belongs to Gwyneth not Apple.

Designing must be 100x easier when you have that much money... Imagine never having to shop at Ikea or spend hours trolling through craig's list. huh.

I like the room too. All the comments about no clutter on the floor seem silly. Who would not clean up before a photo shoot. Also, don't you think she has a house keeper?

As to the kid friendliness of it. All that cutsie stuff that so many people shove into a kid's room is often beneath the child's level of sophistication and taste.

My niece, at age 6, chose a Chinese tea room/bed for her room. We were out on a family trip to look for rugs. She spotted the bed and asked for it to be her "big girl bed". She loved the canopy and would have loads of fun with it. She finally had to give up the bed when she outgrew it.

It is always amazing to me the ease with which people offer snarky comments about mothers.

I don't love this, as a child's room, but if the child loves it that's all that matters. I'm also not a fan of beds in corners, it feels awkward and if you believe in feng shui it's a poor choice for growing kids, but often beds in corners can make small children feel more secure. Kudos for making a canopy... what child didn't want to have a castle or a fort as their bed?

Thanks to flickchick for posting the link to more pictures, I love the dining room light fixture, would love to find a way to have that look on my very low budget for lighting. The whole house is lovely, but doesn't look like a real family lives there, has the distinct look of a house 'sanitized' for the purposes of the magazine shoot.

I'm rarely impressed or interested in celebrities' homes. Maybe because I'm looking for ideas that I can really put to use in my own space. And after just looking at this recent flickr find post, I think I understand why. I love seeing rooms that kids can really bring to life. Like this one:

As a mother, I don't think mothers are criticised enough.

I am wondering what I would have thought of this as a kid..as I had severe fears about closet doors that were closed and what evil monkey could be hiding behind them..how then, does she (apple) feel about the curtains I wonder?
I do love the pillows anything with lettering I love..
To me the less you have.. (resource wise) and what you do with it are the best topics/posts.

I can't imagine how often that white carpet must get cleaned - I would have liked pastel carpet when I was little though.
