Do you own these blinds? They have been recalled by Ikea after the strangulation death of a 1-year old child. Approximately 670,000 were sold in the U.S. and almost 5 million more worldwide between July 2005 through June 2008.

If you own roman blinds from Ikea, please check the sewn-in label at the top edge of the blind which will be labeled IRIS or ALVINE. For more information, see the Consumer Product Safety Commission's press release or recall information on Ikea's website.
I think we have the Iris shades on our front porch and the other on our back. I guess we are going to be making a trip to Ikea.

We have the Iris blinds throughout our house. I've had them since before our children were born, and have been thinking lately that I should replace all of my blinds, Roman and Venetian--all exposed blind cords pose a strangulation hazard, whether in the front or in the back of the blind, and whether or not they're near a crib.
Too bad, because the blinds are cute and cheap. I'm sorry to read about the death of the little girl.

Have people never heard of child-protective cord cleats? They cost a couple bucks and work with ANY blind. It really ain't brain surgery...

I'm sorry but this is kind of crazy. What's next? recalling bathtubs because my grandmother slipped and broke her neck?

That's truly heartbreaking, but I don't think that IKEA should have to recall all of their blinds.
