# 11 - Annie Octopus’ Outer Space Room

Name: Annie Octopus, 9 months.
Location: Galiano Island, BC

Why I chose these colors for the nursery:
We wanted our baby’s room to be lush, colorful and fun. Our colours were chosen to be vibrant and baby friendly without falling into the clichéd pastel pink, yellow or blue. We also tried to pick colours that would work for a boy or girl since we decided not to 'peek' before the big day.

After our daughter was born, we added bright pink and green accessories that accented the wall colour and furniture. Ultimately the room was inspired by 1950’s dime-store rocket ships and 1970’s kitsch so we created hand painted wooden UFO appliqués to add more colour to the walls. Since we live in an open plan post and beam house, we wanted to carry the warmth of the abundant wood from the rest of our home into the nursery. We accomplished this by using rich wood furnishings culled from local flea markets and neighbors’ basements.

Two Good Color Tips:
1. Don’t be afraid to use bold colour. Too many people seem locked into austere white walls

2. Pick colours that accent and accentuate some of your favourite objects

Very fun room. There seems to a secondary, underwater theme going on. Never met a scifi flick I didn't like as a kid, old or new. Go Annie!
