Name: Jack, 15-months
Location: Chicago, IL
Why I chose these colors for the nursery:
I wasn't sure if I was having a boy or a girl and wanted a color that could work for both. My talented friend Ana is an artist. Her baby gift to me was a mural of my choice for my future little one. I gave her my ideas and she painted this masterpiece in one day. We live in a 1923 Bungalow with very sad plaster walls. A mural was a perfect answer to walls with many imperfections.
I wanted a calming color that could be accented with the mountains, vineyards, a lake, birds soaring and the skyline of Chicago. I just love the way it turned out. I was able to add color with lamps, stuffed animals, and blankets without it seeming to busy. I wanted to keep the furniture white to let the walls tell us a story each day.
Two Good Color Tips:
Ana used the base color of the walls and added a little to her palette to keep the colors flowing throughout the room.
Murals are the perfect way to add a lot of different colors if you are having trouble deciding between one or two. I love that I can add anything to Jack's room, and it really seems to work.
Color(s) and brand(s) of paint used in the room:
Benjamin Moore, Lavender Ice. Trim Color: Behr Paint, Snow white
What's not to love here? This room is so lovely. The wall mural is transporting. An adult could be put in a completely different mood hanging out in here.
Calming indeed. Fantastic environment!

I think this room is a serene, soft and soothing haven. I can tell why you would love it so much. Color doesn't have to be vibrant and 'in your face' to make a statement. I think successful color has a lot to do with how it evokes emotion and feelings within a person. Looking at this room makes me feel happy, fills me with a sense of comfort and I just let out a big satisfying "aaaaaaaaaah"— in other words I love it! The mural is beautiful, timeless and classic. Your friend did a phenomenal job! Bravo!

This is lovely. I really like that you've shown how the room looks with the lights on. I find lighting a baby's room just as integral as the paint colour and furniture, since most of the time we spend in the room is at night, and it's so important to have soothing lighting when you're up with a sick or hungry or nightmare-y child.
And with the mural, I think this is a room your child is just going to appreciate more and more as he or she gets older.
Also, you have Icebat! My favourite of all the Ugly dolls!

This looks fantastic! I wish I had a friend or could hire someone that could do this. We have a tiny space and want to do something soft but creative. I wonder how I can find someone in nyc who could do a mural

I'm so glad I found this entry! I also love the Jenny Lind crib, but I was concerned that it would look too feminine for a boy. However, you've shown that it can work! I absolutely love everything you've done here - especially the colors of the walls. It's hard to tell from your picture - is your crib white or light yellow?
